As part of the continuing advocacy of MRWD to help save the depleting environment, a second tree planting activity was sponsored by the Water District in line with the Global Peace Festival in the Visayas. The activity is in partnership with Service for Peace in the Philippines and Capiz Provincial Task Force on Environmental Protection. The project with a theme “Plant the Seeds of Peace for Environmental Sustainability” was held at the vicinity of the MRWD Water Treatment Plant site at Paslang, Brgy. Salocon, Panitan, Capiz on November 17, 2008.

The speakers of the activity were Engr. Julius Abela from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Dr. Randy Ame of Service for Peace and Forrester Rodrigo Diego of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Their messages mainly focused on the promotion of worthwhile service projects for environmental protection.

Some 1,500 Mahogany and Acacia seedlings, 500 Bamboo and 3,000 Malabago cuts or a total of 5,000 seedlings and cuts were planted during that significant day. Around 200 volunteers participated in the tree planting activity which includes the National Service Training Program (NSTP) students of Dean Alberto Villaruz College, concerned and civic-minded barangay volunteer workers of Roxas City and Panitan, DPWH, Panay Radio Communications Inc., and the Panitan Local Government Unit.

Both activities were a big success with a noble cause to protect our watershed areas as part of the goal to protect the environment as a whole.
