Roxas City – A Manifesto Signing was had by the participants of Panay River Clean Up Drive event initiated relative to the World Water Day Celebration held last March 22, 2012. The said commitment signing is in response to the challenge posed on its theme, “Suba Ko… Palangga Ko…”, which seeks to advance the cause in the interest of safeguarding the Panay River. This year’s celebration of the World Water Day was both a success and commendable being made possible thru the collaborative efforts of the Metro Roxas Water District, the City Government of Roxas and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Suba Ko.. Palangga Ko - Manifesto SigningThis endeavor clearly shows that the pressing need for environmental protection is a collective burden and responsibility in which everyone must get involved as it greatly affects and concerns all. The participants to the event were apprised of the importance of environmental consciousness so as to be able to respond to the concerns that endanger the natural resource. The lecture specifically on the proper waste disposal was a good starting point to orient the community to adopt such measure in order to prevent the contamination of our Panay River which will eventually lead to its detriment.

As one of the lead agencies in the activity, the is glad to have been given the privilege to be a part of the said undertaking as it has helped advance the District’s thrust on the conservation of the Panay River as its main water source for the efficient and sustainable delivery of clean potable drinking water. Moreover, the event has definitely contributed to the success of the worldwide water day celebration which espoused a global Water and Food Security theme for this year.
